Merchants in the yard

From early spring to late autumn, the market square buzzes with local farmers and flower vendors. The market is characterized by seasonality. Up until midsummer, the stalls are typically filled with abundant flower, vegetable, herb, berry, and fruit seedlings, hanging pots, and strawberries.

In the latter half of summer, the square is fragrant with Latvian harvest produce – blueberries, cherries, tomatoes, new potatoes, carrots, cucumbers, zucchini, herbs, fava beans, lingonberries, gooseberries, apples, and other local delicacies. Throughout the year, from Thursday to Sunday, the square also hosts perhaps the most popular family-run café, “Klapkalnciema zivis”.

During the cooler months, everyone should try the famous Twitter, or salmon cheese soup, and fish solyanka at least once. In summer, it’s a must to come for fish burgers and fresh fish for grilling at home. The café also offers fish dishes to go and other treats.
